Over the past few days I've had a fair few people ask me when Unlawfully at Large, the next DCI Jack Tyler book, is going to be released as it was meant to come out in November but we've now reached December and there's still no sign of it. The honest answer is, I'm not sure. The book, all 169,000 or so words of it, is finished, and I'm delighted to say that all the feedback from my trusty team of Beta readers has been very positive. At the moment, the manuscript is with the editor, but she is absolutely snowed under with work. Realistically, it's looking like she won't be able to finish the editing for me until after Christmas. And then there is the cover. I'm in the process of having the cover for Jack's Back revamped as I want the series to have a more identifiable look that readers will instantly recognise. Obviously, I can't commission the cover for the second book until that work is finished. Like good editors, good cover designers are always busy. In hindsight, I was way too optimistic when I set my projected release dates for both Unlawfully at Large and the third book in the series, Turf War, and there is a lesson to be learned from that. I'll let everyone know as soon as there is any movement with the editing and the cover, and you can rest assured I'll make Unlawfully at Large available as soon as I can! I really hope that, when you finally get to read the book, you'll think that it was worth the wait! As a consolation for the unanticipated delay, I'm going to be giving away a couple of signed copies of Jack's Back before Christmas, and I'll post more about how that's going to work in the next few days. Until then, stay safe and be happy!
