When an ex-squaddie who’s struggling to keep his failing business afloat discovers that a local thug has been entrusted to look after a small fortune in diamonds, he senses an opportunity to get rich quick. But there’s a snag. The gems belong to a notorious East London gangster, and he’s not a man you steal from if you want to continue breathing.

When an unidentified body is found floating in Regent's Canal, DCI Jack Tyler is tasked with solving the sinister mystery. A difficult and frustrating case from the start, it doesn’t help that he’s been saddled with a TV crew who are making a documentary about homicide investigations.

With his week already off to such a bad start, Tyler is convinced that things can’t possibly get any worse. Unfortunately, he’s in for a very rude awakening!
